Formation of expert panel hailed

By Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 27 The general secretary-cum-spokesman of the Bodoland National Conference (BNC), Kampa Borgoyary, today welcomed the formation of a one-man expert committee on the Bodoland issue to be headed by former Home Secretary GK Pillai.

Talking to media persons, Borgoyary said that the one-man committee has been formed on the basis of the discussion between the representatives of the Government of India, the State government and the BTC authority. The Bodoland would be formed based on the recommendations of the expert committee, he said adding that the committee will analyse opinions of different organizations and communities living within the Bodoland region.

Borgoyary said an expert committee or a Cabinet committee is formed to examine the viability of formation of a new State and so the expert committee also needs to look into the feasibility of the Bodoland State. Replying to a questions on the objection raised by the ABSU and its allied groups over the formation of the expert committee, he said the move of the ABSU was surprising and it is difficult to understand why they are making it an issue before the public.

On the formation of the three-men expert committee on the creation of Bodoland State headed by Bhupender Singh in 1991, Borgoyary said the committee did not submit a negative report on the statehood issue as alleged by the ABSU, but the then Bodoland Autonomous Council and other autonomous councils were created on the basis of the report.
