Formalin-laced fish, cold drinks, expired food items seized

By CORRESPONDENT

JONAI, Aug 25 - Officials of the Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs conducted a surprise check in the marketplaces of Jonai and Ruksin and seized about 20 kg of formalin-laced imported fish on Friday.

The officials also conducted checks in hotels and shops and seized a number of expired food items and cold drinks.

The officials detected a number of anomalies in weight machines and apparatus used by retail traders and also found that many trade licenses were not renewed. However, they did not book any trader, but warned them against malpractice in their business.

The local administration had last month imposed a ban on the sale of formalin-laced imported fish in Jonai subdivision and warned the traders of legal action for any violation.

The team that conducted Fridays operation included officers from the subdivisional veterinary, agriculture and fishery departments.
