SILCHAR, July 25 - At a time when there has been a lot of talk on alleged foul play in the movement of trucks from forest areas without valid challans across the State and the Barak Valley in particular, the State Government has floated the revenue e-procurement sale and transit system of the Forest department.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Assam Forest Online Revenue e-Procurement Sale and Transit System in the presence of Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Finance and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley and other elected representatives here today.

According to MK Yadhav, Director of AMTRON, Assam, which has developed the system, this is a great step by the Government towards making the process of forest revenue management, procurement auction and sale of minor minerals, forest mahals and auction of timber together with transport of all forest produce and minor minerals, completely online. He said that this is a pilot implementation starting from the Cachar Forest Division with facilities of an online forest permit system.
