Forensic evidence against Paul, candidates

By Sanjoy Ray

GUWAHATI, Nov 3 - Investigators in the APSC cash-for-job scam have received fresh and clinching forensic evidence against former chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission Rakesh Paul and all other arrested candidates, which they (investigators) claim, would prove their complicity beyond reasonable doubt.

The latest set of documentary evidence was handed over to the investigators recently by the Questioned Document Division of the Forensic Science Laboratory here.

The latest set of documentary evidence that the investigators have laid their hands on are nothing short of what we call clinching evidence, which would prove the direct involvement of former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul along with the candidates in the scam, a top Assam Police official told The Assam Tribune.

The official told The Assam Tribune that the Assam Police investigating officer of the case Surjeet Singh Panesar will present the evidence to the Court in its 12 th charge-sheet to be filed within a months time.

The charge- sheet is almost ready. We will enlist the fresh set of evidence in the next charge-sheet. We are counting on the fresh set of evidence, which will add teeth to our case in the court of law, the official said.

So far 74 accused, including 60 Government officers, have been arrested in connection with the case. The arrested also include two members and three employees of the APSC along with a veterinary doctor, a forest ranger, a civil engineer and an advocate.

Although the trial into the case has begun, the progress has been rather slow due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have complete faith in the justice delivery system of our country and those who had secured Government jobs by payment of cash would not be spared, the official said.
