NALBARI, Oct 26 - The family members of Falu Das, a resident of Chatemari village under Mukalmua police station in Nalbari district is yet to accept his body as he was declared a foreigner by a tribunal and kept in a detention camp in Goalpara district. He died on Thursday at the GMCH where he was undergoing treatment.

According to the family sources, 70-year-old Falu Das was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on October 13 as his health condition deteriorated at the detention camp. Deputy Commissioner, Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury told this correspondent that the body of late Falu Das is still in the morgue of the GMCH as the family members have set some conditions to accept the body. He stated that the district administration is not in a position to accept the conditions set by the family members.

Two major conditions of the family are that the family members of late Falu Das be included in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) without any process. Secondly, no member of his family may be sent to the detention camp. However, the Deputy Commissioner refused to accept these conditions and urged the family to receive the body on humanitarian grounds. The Deputy Commissioner said it is not possible to accept their conditions.

However, the district administration today sent a medical team to the house of late Falu Das as the condition of his wife today turned critical. The Deputy Commissioner today further said that as the family of late Falu Das is very poor, the district administration will take all possible steps for his cremation if the family accepts the body. However, a tense situation is still prevailing in the remote village. The wife and two sons of late Das are adamant at their stand on not receiving the body, if their demands are not met.
