Food Security Act in Barpeta

BARPETA, Dec 31 - The Food Security Act-2013 came into force in Barpeta subdivision on Wednesday. State Minister of Public Health Engineering and Minority Development Affairs Sukur Ali Ahmed inaugurated the scheme at Chenga.

He distributed identity cards and 35 kgs of rice for Rs 5 per kg to the families under Antodya Anna Jojana and 5 kg of rice to the families under priority scheme to the families under the Pub Chenga and Paschim Chenga Gaon Panchayat Samabay Samiti areas.

Addressing a meeting held on the occasion with Additional Deputy Commissioner Babul Chandra Sahariya Sukur Ali Ahmed said that beneficiaries under the scheme are the highest in Assam.

He claimed that this act is the brain child of the UPA Government aiming at benefiting the people living under poverty line.

Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supply, Barpeta Atfur Rahman, inspectors of the department, secretaries of cooperative societies and other officials were also present in the meeting.

It may be mentioned that 30,765 families and a population of 10,12,525 persons have been included under Antodaya and priority schemes respectively in Barpeta subdivision.
