Food processing needs promoting in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Jan 18 - The food processing industry in Arunachal Pradesh needs to be promoted aggressively as it is a sunrise industry and full of potential, Arunachal Pradesh Planning Secretary Sonam Chombay, said here today.

�Food Processing Industry is a sunrise industry which has the potential of dramatically improving rural livelihood opportunities and bridging the rural-urban divide,� Sonam said while addressing a day-long conference on �Linking Prospective Food Entrepreneurs with Government schemes and market�, organised by ASSOCHAM in collaboration with Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

He also said that the agro climatic condition of Arunachal Pradesh is suitable to agricultural and horticultural crops, and that a strong and effective food processing sector would play a significant role in employment generation as well as harnessing and exploiting local resources. � PTI

Sangma briefs Rajnath on law and order situation

New Delhi, Jan 18 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed with him prevailing law and order situation in the Northeastern State.

During the 20-minute meeting, Sangma briefed the Home Minister on the steps taken to tackle insurgency in Meghalaya, particularly in Garo Hills region, official sources said.

The recent kidnapping and subsequent killing of an officer of the Intelligence Bureau and another person in Meghalaya also figured during the meeting.

The Home Minister assured the Chief Minister all Central assistance to tackle militancy in the State, sources said. � PTI
