Floods submerge several villages in Howraghat

HOWRAGHAT, Aug 23 � Uncessant rains since the weekend has flooded the entire Howraghat Legislative Assembly constituency. As per official reports, the flood waters of the Pudikharu and Harina rivers submerged as many as 24 revenue villages affecting more than 20,000 families badly.

The report further said that Ok-Kereng, Dighal pani, Pubdikharu, Modartali, Ramsa gaon, Serakhani and Hambung gaon were badly affected along with the other villages of the Howraghat region.

Searching for secured shelter, flood-hit people of the region rushed to the upper places since last night. Several PWD roads and embankment have been damaged. The flood affected people have lost many properties along with their domestic cattle. Besides, thousands of hectares of paddy fields have been submerged.

Visiting the affected areas, the HAD Minister Kharsing Engti on Sunday instructed the district administration to provide relief materials immediately to the flood affected people.

Besides, Engti instructed government officials that were present during the visit to take prompt adequate measure to tackle the floods. Later, in the evening, relief materials like rice, dal, cooking oil, candle and kerosene etc were distributed among the flood-hit people staying at a relief camp set up at Ok-kereng High School. Besides, the veterinary department also supplied one truck of grass for the cattle.
