MIRZA, June 29 - The flood situation in Kamrup district worsened on Monday with the Brahmaputra flowing 25-30 cm above the danger level in most villages of Palasbari, Goroimari, Chamaria, Nagarbera and Hajo Revenue Circles, affecting over 50,000 families in over 80 villages.
Thousands of families in villages like Bardia, Bhatkhowadia, Baniapara, Biturtari, Pagladia, Kalardia, Charaimari etc., under Palasbari Revenue Circle are reeling under floods with water reaching the rooftops of the houses. Several villages like Futuri, Bartari, Simina, Guimara, Panikhaiti, Dakhala, Satrapara etc., under Palasbari have also been partially inundated. Rescue operations have not been launched till the filing of this report.
Massive erosion is also going on with over 40 families of Palasbari losing their homes. Thousands of families of 10 char villages under Goroimari Revenue Circle have got marooned. Several hundred families have shifted to highlands, but no relief has reached them till now.
Chhaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed has asked the government to take immediate action to rescue the marooned families and distribute relief materials. �Thousands of people in south Kamrup are reeling under the floods, but the government has not yet launched rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures,� he lamented.
In the char areas of Hajo, the flood havoc is worse than in the plains and several hundred families of Siyalmari, Borchar,Gaoburapam etc., villages are reeling under floods.
Over 20 villages under Boko LAC have also been affected. Standing Boro and Ahu paddy, jute crop is under water, said Bisa Ali (59) of Rangapani village. Flood and erosion have been causing major problem in Kurihamari and Bhangonmari Gaon Panchayats under Barkhetri in Nalbari district.
