DHEMAJI, Sept 24 - Although the monsoon floods in Dhemaji district are over, heavy and incessant rains in Siang region have yet again created flood fury and affected human habitations, besides damaging a large area of standing paddy crops in the district.
The flood has affected over 4,500 people of 29 villages in Dhemaji, Sisiborgaon and Jonai revenue circle thereby leaving behind a trail of devastation.
Flood water has entered human habitations of Harudherara, Bordhekera, Bod-Dolopa, Halmari, Dulungkang, Bhojugaon, Tinighoriya Mising gaon under Dhemaji circle and has damaged dwelling houses, rural roads and submerged standing crops in these rural areas.
Flood water has also gushed through breached portions of river dykes at Berachapori area in Jonai revenue circle and affected people of 21 villages, and submerged a large area of sali paddy cultivation.
Overflowing waters of Jiyadhal river in Dhemaji circle has once again damaged a railway embankment and approach bridge (Bridge No. 693) at Jiyadhal Bhojugaon, hitting train services for the last couple of days.
The NFR authority has suspended a number of passenger and goods trains plying along the route. Thus, the operation of Murkongselek-Rangiya passenger train, Murkongselek-Dekargaon passenger, Kamakhya-Murkongselek intercity (Lachit Express) and Naharlagun-Tinsukia passenger and other good trains have been hit.
However, the NFR officials informed that the damaged portion was repaired this afternoon and all rail services resumed from this evening.
Earlier too, flood water had damaged same portion of the Rangiya-Murkongselek BG railway on August 1 this year and snapped rail communication along the route.
As per report of District Disaster Management department, flood water is receding since improvement in weather condition from this morning.
