Floods damage 214 institutes in Golaghat

DERGAON, Aug 3 - Though classes have resumed in the educational institutions after the one month summer vacation, but 214 such schools and colleges in Golaghat district, have not been able to do so, as they have been badly damaged by the recent floods.

Institutions under three educational blocks were damaged and the number of such institutions is high in Golaghat West Educational Block. Among the total schools damaged, 202 are primary schools and 12 high schools. Among the total 85 primary schools affected under the West Block 75 are LP, 8 UP, 1 Junior Basic and 1 Senior Basic school. Similarly, among 66 affected schools under North Block, 49 LP and 17 UP schools. In the Central block, 51 schools were affected where 23 LP, 10 UP and 8 Junior basic schools were affected. On the other hand, relief camps are opened in 29 schools under West Educational Block including 16 LP and 8 UP schools. Five LP schools, under the North block have been set up as relief camps.

The district administration has prepared a detailed report for onward submission to the Government. Golaghat DC Barrnali Deka has expressed deep concern over the loss of classes of the students of these schools and urged the teachers to make alternative arrangements to teach the students if possible.
