By Correspondent

JAMUGURIHAT, Nov 4 More than 3000 victims of the 2012 floods, which had devastated the southern part of Biswanath Chariali, Chatiya and Jamugurihat and destroyed their home and hearths, livestock, poultry and farmlands held a demonstration at the Jamuguri centre under the leadership of Chatiya MLA Padma Hazarika recently.

The demonstrators in a procession went through the street shouting slogans and organised a meeting in front of the Block Development Office, Jamugurihat and handed over a memorandum to be sent to the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur through the BDO.

It may noted here that in the devastating and unprecedented floods, thousands of people had lost everything and government had promised them compensation. But till now they have not received a single rupee as compensation from the government. The people demanded that immediate compensation be paid to them, threatening to undertake a march to Dispur if their demand is not fulfilled. MLA Padma Hazarika said that he had raised the compensation issue in the Assembly also, and had got an assurance from the government but in vain.
