GUWAHATI, Sept 29 - With one more flood-induced death reported from Biswanath district, the overall count of deaths caused by flood in the State this year has touched 120 on Tuesday.
However, the flood scenario has improved to a considerable extent with the number of affected population coming down from 3,17,977 to 2,78,979 in the past 24 hours.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 458 villages under 15 revenue circles in Dhemaji, Biswanath, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and West Karbi Anglong continue to reel under flood waters.
The Brahmaputra river in Jorhat, Sonitpur and Kamrup (Metro) districts, the Jia Bharali in Sonitpur and the Kopili in Nagaon are flowing above the danger level. In the affected districts, 117 people are taking shelter in 39 relief camps.
In the past 24 hours, flood waters damaged a number of embankments in Biswanath and Hojai districts along with a number of roads in Morigaon and Nagaon districts. Flood waters have also submerged more than 27,000 hectares of cropland in the affected districts.
