Flood threat in Barak Valley

SILCHAR, June 19 - With further increase in water level of river Barak and others, flood threat is looming large in the valley.

According to reports from the District Disaster Managment Authority, Cachar, the water level of river Barak at Annapurna Ghat was recorded at 18.05 metres at 4 pm on Monday with a rising trend by 6 cm per hour. The danger level at this point is 19.83 metres. On the other hand, people in Sonai constituency too have been anticipating a flood threat as waters of Sonai and Rukni rivers are in spate due to release of water from the Turial Hydel Project in Mizoram. A similar situation was observed in Baleshwar and Kathakhal areas as well.
