Flood situation worsens at Gauripur

GAURIPUR, July 17 - The flood situation in greater Gauripur area worsened due to increase in the water level of the Brahmaputra and its tributary Gadadhar. Most of the areas of the town remain under knee deep water. The Pramathesh Barua Road, Harisabha Road, Tara Nath Goswami Road and the Ishlampur, Paulpara, Sarat lane and Beparipatty areas of the town are reeling under flood water for the last two days. Dwelling houses of Ward No.3 and 4 are under water. The situation may further worsen as the Laukhowa dyke is threatened by the swelling water of the Gadadhar in the northern part of the town. The flood water of the river Gangadhar poses threat to a large area in the western part of the town.

The entire campus of the Gauripur CHC is under flood water. Most of the government employees could not attend their duties as the Gauripur-Dhubri road was closed for traffic.
