NORTH LAKHIMPUR, June 8 � The flood situation in Lakhimpur district has entered into a critical condition as heavy rain has been lashing this region for the last one week and one person has been swept away in flood water.
Incessant rains for a prolonged period in the district and in the neighbouring hills of Arunachal Pradesh has increased the water levels of all major rivers of Lakhimpur flowing above danger levels in several places since Sunday. As all the big and small rivers of Lakhimpur district originate inside the hills of the Arunachal Pradesh, heavy rains there and here on the plains have contributed for the spate in the rivers.
According to district Water Resources Department the rivers of Dikrong, Pabha and Kakoi has been flowing over the danger level since 3 pm of Sunday. It may be mentioned that Dikrong river has to bear an additional amount of water released from NEEPCO�s hydroelectric power plant over Ranganadi river at Yazali, Arunachal Pradesh.
On the other hand, Ranganadi river is flowing almost on the danger level by late last night near NH-15 following the release of sluice gate No. 4 of the NEEPCO�s dam. Similarly, the biggest river in Lakhimpur Subansiri is flowing dangerously at Ghancharai region of the district.
In Nowboicha revenue circle the overflowing waters of Bogolee and Gabhoru has inundated a vast area of cropland of several villages. The fast currents of Gabhoru river swept away one Rajkumar Biswas (32) while he was fishing with nets near the NH-15 on Sunday evening. An NDRF team has launched a search operation for the missing person.
Tezpur: The flood water of major tributaries of river Brahmaputra including Gabharu, Sopia, Chatrang, Solengi, Brahmajan, Dipota, Jorakhar, Jiabharali, and Gorjuli in Sonitpur have inundated many places including the human habitation.
According to the information available here, Chenimari, Hirajuli, Panbari, Borpothar, Goalpara, Barpeta villages
under the Chenimari GP and Dhekiajuli PS and Jiagabahru, Lakhu Para and Kolakuchi areas under the Misamari PS in Sonitpur district have been submerged due to the flood water. The flood victims of the greater Chenimari- Dhekiajuli area alleged that the local representatives including the panchayat workers and officials from the administration are yet to visit the affected areas.
On the other hand, flood water of Chatrang river has washed away an embankment at three different places near Gohpur town. It is also reported that the Sholengi and Brahmajan river in Gohpur area have submerged many areas.
In Balipara area the Jorakhor river has flooded a large area including Molan Kacharigaon.
