Flood situation still grim in Nagaon

NAGAON, Aug 20 - The ongoing flood and erosion problems in different parts of Nagaon district have forced the people to take shelter in schools and highland areas. Although the State Government and other NGOs have been providing relief materials to the affected people, yet the people are now facing shortage of relief that has led to disappointment among the flood-hit people.

The surging water of the Brahmaputra breached a dyke at Hatimura submerging various places of Koliabor and Jakhalabandha. The train link between Silghat and Guwahati has remained snapped. What is more alarming is that the water level of Kolong is gradually rising in many parts of the district. The surging water of Kolong has entered the classrooms of Sankardev Vidya Niketon located at Puranigudam causing severe hardships for the students.
