Flood situation grim in Biswanath

BISWANATH CHARIALI, June 27 � Around 21 villages have been inundated by the flash flood of rivers Burhigang, Borgang and Pabhoi under Biswanath sub division in Sonitpur district affecting 929 hectares of land and approximately 3,000 people due to the incessant rain since last night.

Portions of the old embankment of the rivers Burhigang and Pabhoi at no. 1 Disiri village and Rangamuri village respectively eroded while several APWD and village roads were washed away by the flood water at Rangajan, Kalapani, Fulbari, Birijan, Kalahandi and Ghoramara resulting in disruption of road communication. The approach portion of the RCC bridge on the APWD road at Pabhoi over Pabhoi river was damaged badly.

Biswanath SP Manabendra Devroy, SDO (C) Pallav Gopal Jha and other officials visited the flood affected areas today and took stock of the situation. The sub divisional administration has also issued urgent instructions to the officials of the concerned departments for taking up all needful actions for rescue and relief operations.

On the other hand, a truck driver Niranjan Hemron (38) was washed away by the flood water of the river Burhigang along with the truck NL 05 B 7873.
