Flood scene remains grim, one drowns in Goalpara dist

GOALPARA, June 29 - The overall flood situation in the district continued to remain grim as it claimed another life during the last 24 hours taking the death toll to three in the district.

The victim has been identified as Jakir Hussein (22), son of Kafuluddin Sheikh of village Mamudpur Pt-I, Dolgoma under Matia Revenue Circle who was drowned in flood water on Sunday evening according to the flood bulletin issued by the district administration on Monday.

Altogether, 92,646 persons from around 141 villages have been affected so far, while the affected 55 villages are under Balijana Revenue Circle, 72 villages under Lakhipur Revenue Circle, 12 villages under Matia Revenue Circle and two villages under Rongjuli Revenue Circle, respectively, and 1,373 inmates displaced by flood water have taken shelter in 13 relief camps which have been opened under Balijana Revenue Circle. Flash flood has damaged 3,019 hectares of crop land under Lakhipur Revenue Circle.

Meanwhile, with the district receiving 33.6 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours, currently river Brahmaputra is flowing steadily .35 metres above the danger level at 36.65 metres. While the water level of Dudhnoi river at 44.98 metres, Krishnai river at 41.23 metres and Jinari river at 39.60 metres have been recording a steady fall, according to the Water Resources Department of Goalpara.
