GOALPARA, July 31 - The flood situation is gradually improving in Goalpara district as water levels of all the major rivers including the Brahmaputra are showing a decreasing trend despite inclement weather.
Out of all the revenue circles, the maximum impact of flood was borne by Lakhipur where around 2,76,349 persons from 140 villages were affected out of the total of around 3.75 lakh of flood-affected people in the district according to the flood bulletin released on Thursday.
Even though the situation has eased a bit, but still a total of 14,538 people including children are still taking shelter in 59 relief camps set up by the district administration in the worst-affected Lakhipur revenue circle.
According to a DIPRO press release, people are gradually returning home in the areas where flood waters have dried up. The district administration has scaled up sanitisation and sprinkling of bleaching powder in these areas while mobile medical teams are organising health checkup camps at various relief camps sites and in the flood-affected areas.
The release also mentioned that a comprehensive gratuity relief has been provided to all the affected people. It has also distributed 4,748.11 quintals of rice, 899 quintals of dal, 269.70 quintals of salt, 26,970 litres of mustard oil, 28,795 tarpaulins, 22,532 masks, 3,939 hand sanitizers etc., besides providing other services.
