Flood scene grim in Lakhimpur

By CORRESPONDENT

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Aug 19 The flood situation in Lakhimpur district has worsened once again following incessant rain since last Saturday.

The continuous rain since August 14 has increased the water of all major rivers in Lakhimpur district mostly in Nowboicha revenue circle and Dhakuwakhona subdivision. All the major rivers and their tributaries, baring a few, are flowing above the danger level in different parts of the district.

The heavy rain in the district and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, from where most of the rivers originate, have overflowed the waters of river Kakoi, Singra and Ranganadi in Nowboicha revenue circle while the rivers Pabha and Dikrong are in spate in Bihpuria revenue circle.

In Ghilamora, under Dha-kuwakhona subdivision the waters of Kumotiya, Jeeyadhol, Paanpora and Korhanadi rivers have inundated several villages.

According to the Water Resources Department, the rivers in Lakhimpur district have been following just bellow the danger level (95.02 meters) which includes Ranganadi (94.86 meters), Singra (93.26 meters), Pabha (92.55 meters) and Dikrong (87. 20 meters) while river Kakoi has touched the danger level.

The flood water in Dhaku-wakhona subdivision has swept away a 2 km portion of the PWD road between Dhakuwakhona and Ghilamaora cutting off the subdivisional headquarter from the rest of the Lakhimpur district.
