SILCHAR, May 27 - Over 25,000 people have been affected by the recent wave of floods in Karimganj district.

According to sources, as many as 52 villages in Patharkandi and two villages in Nilambazar circle of the district have been hit by inundation. Heavy rainfall in Mizoram coupled with water from Longai and Singla rivers overflowing due to breach of embankments have caused the damage, sources said.

Deputy Commissioner MS Manivannan visited the flood-hit areas and distributed necessary relief materials.

There has been a partial improvement in the situation since the water level has started receding, sources added.
