Flood hits 61,501 people in Golaghat

JORHAT, July 14 - A flood report received from the Golaghat district administration today stated that 61,501 people of 88 villages in the district have been affected by the recent wave of floods, which was caused by the rising waters of the Brahmaputra river and its tributary, Dhansiri.

The flood-hit people belong to the villages under the five revenue circles of Golaghat, Dergaon, Bokakhat, Khumtai and Morongi. After visiting several flood-hit areas, Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka has intensified relief operations through the distribution of foodstuffs like rice, dal, salt, mustard oil, candles and other items, including cattle fodder.

As many as 167 flood-hit people are taking shelter in three relief camps of the district which were set up by the district administration at Golaghat, Khumtai and Dergaon Revenue Circles.
