Flood havoc in Baksa, Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, June 28 � Following incessant rains, the surging waters of rivers Saralbhanga and Gaurang have inundated as many as 10 villages in Serfanguri, Dotma and surrounding areas in Kokrajhar district affecting around 2000 people and several hectares of standing crops. The rising water of Gaurang have also inundated 11 villages in Phutikabari area in Kokrajhar.

According to sources, as many as 50 families of Talipbari village under Dotma police station have been affected by this wave of flood. 400 families of Jauliapara village have taken shelter at Jauliapara LP School in Kokrajhar district.

Our Jalah Correspondent adds: Incessant rainfall in the last couple of days and resultant rise in water levels in many rivers flowing down from Bhutan hills have flooded many villages in different parts of Baksa.

Several villages in Gobardhona area were flooded after the embankment of Beki, which flows through the Manas National Park, was breached at Gondabil area. Villages like Narayanguri, Pachim Narayanguri, Rogobil, Sunbari, Bispani, Aleengrabari, Nimua, Sauraguri and Kalpani have remained flooded since after the river waters made way through the breach in the embankment.

The water level had come down this evening bringing hope and relief to the villagers and affected people.
