Flood death toll goes up to 11

GUWAHATI, June 18 - In all, 5,48,986 people of 719 villages under 20 revenue circles in the six districts of Nagaon, Hojai, Golaghat, Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj have been affected by the current wave of flood on the sixth day today. With the fresh reports of two flood-related death, one each from Cachar and Hailakandi, the total flood-related death toll today shot up to 11, said the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in its flood bulletin here this evening.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel have evacuated 8,201 marooned people from the flood-hit districts of Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar, said the ASDMA flood bulletin.

In the 225 relief camps of Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj, 1,59,652 flood-hit people are taking shelter. The district administrations of Cachar and Karimganj have opened up 212 relief distribution centres too for the benefit of the flood-hit people.

Meanwhile, the Dhansiri (South) is flowing above its danger level at Numaligarh in Golaghat district, while the Barak is flowing above its danger levels at Annapurnaghat in Cachar district and at Badarpurghat in Karimganj district, the Katakhal is flowing above its danger level at Marizuri in Hailakandi district and the Kushiyara is flowing above its danger level at Karimganj in Karimganj district, said the ASDMA flood bulletin.
