Flood claims two lives in State

GUWAHATI, July 21 � The current wave of flood has taken two human lives during the past 24 hours. Darrang district has been mentioned in official flood bulletin this evening as the new district affected by flood during the period.

Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra is flowing above danger level at Neamatighat, Tezpur and Dhubri and its tributaries Dhansiri (South), Jia Bharali and Beki are flowing above danger level respectively at Numaligarh, NT Road and Road Bridge points, said the official flood bulletin.

The number of villages affected in Dhemaji district stands at 134. It is followed by Lakhimpur, which has 118 affected villages. However, in terms of the number of population affected by the floodwaters, Lakhimpur with 1, 55,785 people, tops all the affected districts.

Dhemaji district has got 49,090 of its people affected by the current wave of flood. Darrang, with 12,585 of its people affected, comes next to Dhemaji in this respect.

The two persons killed in the current wave of flood include one in the Naduar Revenue Circle of Sonitpur district and the other in the Bihpuria Revenue Circle of Lakhimpur district, said the flood bulletin.
