Five youths held on assault charges

AIZAWL, Nov 18 - Five youths have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a driver at Phunchawng on outskirts here on Saturday night.

A statement issued by the police said a non-local driver was assaulted by some youths near a filling station at Phunchawng. Soon after the incident, a team from the Sairang PS reached the spot and began investigation.

The police team found that one Bobidul Haque (21), a driver of a goods vehicle bearing registration number HR-55/M-2648, sustained injuries after he was assaulted by five youths. Haque is a resident of Tukra Part II in Goalpara district of Assam.

�All the five accused were subjected to breath analyser test and the test report confirmed that they were under the influence of alcohol,� the police said.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim, a case has been registered in this connection.

All the accused have been sent to judicial custody.

The Mizoram Police appealed to the public, especially the youth, not to engage in any such criminal activity or antisocial behaviour which can disrupt peace and communal harmony. �Violators will be dealt with severely according to the law,� it warned.
