Five in the fray for Dhemaji bypoll

DHEMAJI, March 25 - Five candidates will be in the fray for the byelection to the 113-Dhemaji LAC (ST) to be held on April 9 next.

The above was stated by the District Returning Officer-cum Dhemaji DC R A Korati here following the expiry of the day of withdrawing candidature yesterday.

According to the District Returning Officer, no candidate withdrew their candidature from the electoral contest. The Returning Officer made this announcement before the contesting candidates and their agents at a meeting held in Dhemaji DC�s office conference hall yesterday.

The meeting was attended by general observer for the bypoll Narendra Sing Patel. Speaking at the meeting, the general observer explained various aspects of the electoral code and conduct to be abided by in the election. The meeting was attended by Utpal Bora, Election Officer, Nilesh Tryambak Sawakare, SP, Dhemaji, Mandira Chayengia, District Information and Public Relations Officer, Dhemaji and several other dignitaries.

The candidates in the fray include Babul Sonowal (Congress), Dr Ranuj Pegu (BJP), Jadu Hazarika (CPIM), Hemkanta Miri (SUCI) and Raj Kumar Doley (Voters Party of India).
