GUWAHATI, April 23: Police arrested five hardcore ULFA (I) cadres in Charaideo and subsequently, based on their confession, recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
The operation was led by Charaideo SP Anand Mishra. While the ULFA cadres were arrested yesterday, the recoveries were done in the wee hours today.
Those arrested have been identified as Apurba Gogoi,
Simanta Gogoi, Biraj Asom, Lakshyajit Gogoi and Sidhartha Gogoi. The recovered arms and ammunition include MQ 81 assault rifles, magazines of MQ 81, a 7.65 mm pistol (Russian made) with magazine and a
0.22 mm (factory made) with magazine among others. Assam Police sources informed that the arrested cadres were wanted in a number of serious offences including kidnaping and bomb blasts.
Police also arrested another person for harbouring the ULFA cadres. All the arrested accused have been sanitized and COVID-19 tests done.
