Five-day training for surrendered militants held at Nalbari

NALBARI, April 12 - A five-day training programme for the self-employment of surrendered militants of different insurgent groups under Nalbari, Baksa and Barpeta districts was concluded at the SIRD auditorium of Sariahtali in Nalbari district here recently.

The training was organised by the department of home in collaboration with the State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development under the Government�s new scheme Swabalamban only to explore self-employment avenues for the surrendered militants.

The training camp was inaugurated by Nadira Jesmine, District Development commissioner, in an inaugural function where more than 200 surrendered militants took part. The inaugural function was also attended by Nalbari Superintendent of Police, Hemanta Bhattacharya; SBI official, Bikram Prasad; president of Praktan ULFA Samannayrakshi Samiti, Bhaskar Kalita; secretary of Praktan ULFA Smannayrakshi Samiti, Bijoy Hazarika; among others.

Addressing the meeting, Hazarika said that in the first phase, 630 surrendered militants of the State will be trained up. A total of 221 surrendered militants were trained up at two other training venues of Kahikuchi and Nagaon.

In Nalbari, 160 former militants were trained up for self-employment. The inaugural function was presided over by Amarjyoti Das, head of the SIRD,Nalbari. Dr Achyut Akash Bora, Dr Ashini Kalita and Kamini Deka, among others, took part as resource persons in the training camp.

Girl bags medal: A Nalbari girl, Minakshi Barman, brought laurel to the district receiving the gold medal in MTech examination at the Energy Technology Branch of the Tezpur Central University. The Governor of Assam, Banowarilal Purohit, who is also the chancellor of the university, handed over the gold medal to Minakshi in a function held recently. Minakshi got �first class first� in Energy Technology and got highest mark among all departments.

She is the daughter of senior advocate Mukunda Barman and teacher Saraswati Barman. Minakshi is married to Himangshu Nath, an engineer of Oil India Limited.
