SHILLONG, Feb 1 - Five candidates have filed their nomination papers here today taking the total to nine candidates who have filed their nomination papers in the past couple of days.�
Today, Lambor Malngiang and Teibor Pathaw (Independents) filed their nomination papers for Nongkrem and Mawlai seats respectively. Gabriel Wahlang from Congress and Witting Mawsor from Hill State People�s Democratic Party (HSPDP) filed their nominations for Nongstoin and Mawshynrut constituencies respectively, Chief Electoral Officer, Fredrick Roy Kharkongor said.�
In Garo Hills region, Nimarson Momin from United Democratic Party filed his nomination papers for Salmanpara seat.
Yesterday, on the first day for filing of nominations, four candidates filed their nominations that included Cabinet Minister Amapareen Lyngdoh of Congress.�
Most of the candidates came with a large number of their supporters during filing of their nominations at the Deputy Commissioner�s office to showcase their strength.�
Meanwhile, while the candidates of different political parties are busy filing their nominations, BJP is yet to come up with its list of candidates. BJP State president Shibun Lyngdoh and a few others have gone to New Delhi where the list of the party is likely to be finalised.�
However, the party is way behind its campaign as many of the prospective candidates are still not aware if they would get the party ticket. One such candidate from South Shillong is Sanbor Shullai who recently quit NCP and joined the party.�
Although, BJP leader and National Spokesperson Nalin Kohli has assured that all sitting legislators would get the party ticket, however, in the absence of a clear message from the party headquarters the candidates have still not begun their campaign in right earnest.
