SIVASAGAR, Sept 5 - After a marathon operation carried out by a joint team comprising 185 security personnel from SDRF and NDRF, the ill-fated Swift DZire car along with five persons which drowned in the Dikhow river on Saturday, was retrieved today.

Three jawans of SDRF, including Dilip Orang, Suren Orang and Pankaj Subba spotted the car at a distance of about 200 metres downstream with the help of a 10-kg magnet and later pulled it out with ropes.

Earlier, the NDRF and the Indian Navy concentrated more at a place with sophisticated equipment, but the SDRF personnel tried with their limited technical equipment and brought a huge magnet from Dibrugarh yesterday, which ultimately helped in making the operation successful.

The decomposed bodies of the family were recovered from the car and sent for post-mortem to Jatanagar Civil Hospital. Their last rights will be performed on the bank of the Dikhow near the spot of the accident. As the marathon recovery expedition came to an end,the local people through different media, called upon the Sivasagar district administration to erect more pillars to prevent such accident in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sivasagar, hailed the initiatives of the people involved in recovering the bodies.
