Five all-women polling booths to be set up in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, April 6 - Five all-women polling booths will be set up in Haflong, headquarter of Dima Hasao district during the ensuing Lok Sabha election, where polling will be held on April 18.

This step is in a bid to encourage more female voters to exercise their franchise.

As per the Election Commission�s (EC) directions to set up polling stations entirely managed by women, five such booths will be set up in Dima Hasao.

The names of the booths are � 158-NK Daulagupu LP School, 160-Superintendent of Sericulture Office, 166-Haflong Govt College, 168-Sainza Razi LP School and 178-District Social Welfare Office.

All those deployed at such polling stations, including presiding officers, polling officers, micro observers and security personnel and other employees � will be women. This is an initiative towards gender equality involving women�s participation in the electoral process.

Apart from this, three model polling booths, namely 170-Assistant Engineer NFR Office, 162-Haflong Town Razi Community Hall, 95-Maibang Kalibari LP School have been selected in this district with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF).

These polling booths will have provision for ramp to facilitate the PwD (persons with disabilities) voters, provision for drinking water, adequate furniture, medical kit, proper lighting facilities and electrical arrangements, help desk, toilets, shades, volunteers, queue management etc.
