JORHAT, July 28 - On the basis of a complaint lodged by a citizen of Golaghat, police have sent signatures of a doctor of the town for forensic test who was allegedly involved in issuing certificates of physical fitness for driving licenses without examining the physical condition of the applicants.
The complainant, Mustaque Ali complained that a blank form (Form No. 1) with a signature of a registered medical practitioner of a local hospital was provided to him at the District Transport Office at a price of Rs 110 for renewal of his license. As several applicants were issued driving licenses on the basis of this physical fitness form, he was also instructed by the official concerned to fill up the blank spaces of the form and submit the same to the office.
I was shocked to notice that the physical fitness forms being sold are actually blank forms, but are already declared and duly signed by a registered medical practitioner from Bholaguri Mini PHC, Golaghat The signed forms are sold at Rs 110, stated Ali in his written complaint to the Golaghat Superintendant of Police.
As he sought an investigation into the case of selling false medical certificates in the DTO office of Golaghat, police registered a case under Section 468 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for investigating the alleged forgery for purpose of cheating.
Investigation is going on. We have sent the sample of signatures of the registered doctor to the State Forensic Science Laboratory for confirmation, said a police officer of Golaghat Police Station.
The complainant requested police to bust the nexus of doctor and some corrupt officials of the Golaghat DTO and punish them through legal procedures.
If such criminal activities are not prevented, the number of road mishaps will increase. It is the duty of all of us Golaghat citizens to stand against such criminal activities, said Mustaque.
