First Sainik School inaugurated in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR, Sept 11 - Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today inaugurated the State�s first Sainik School at Niglok in East Siang district and dedicated it to the people of the State.

In his address, the Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for granting three Sainik Schools to the State. He said the location of two other Sainik Schools would be decided after due consultation to cover the eastern and western belts of the State.

The Chief Minister said the State rightfully deserves Sainik Schools as Arunachali people are known for their patriotism. Opening of Sainik Schools will provide opportunities to the youths of the State to pursue careers in the Armed Forces and other prestigious options, he added.

Khandu congratulated the first batch of the students and appreciated the role of the principal of the Sainik School, Goalpara, Captain Edwin Jothirajan for his hard work on the ground for early establishment of the school.

The Chief Minister said the school is at present functioning from its temporary building and assured support for additional infrastructure like hostel and academic buildings. He also promised to start the work on the school building in the permanent site this year and to complete it within three years.

The function was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, State BJP president Tapir Gao, Education Minister Honchun Ngandam, Health Minister Alo Libang, Adviser to the Chief Minister Lombo Tayeng, Arunachal East MP Ninong Ering, Major General Bhaskar Kalita, Sainik School principal Lt Col Ashok and other dignitaries.

The school began its first academic session this year with an intake of 60 students selected from all over Arunachal Pradesh and the rest of the country.
