First govt model college inaugurated in Bongaigaon

BONGAIGAON, Aug 30 - State Education, Health and Finance Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Wednesday inaugurated the first government model college � Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya � at Tulungia in Bongaigaon district.

Already 85 students in BCom first semester and 75 students in Higher Secondary Commerce first year took admissions in the college which has 300 seats (150 each for degree and higher secondary section).

There are 16 residential quarters for teaching staff, quarters for grade-iii and grade-iv employees and a girls� hostel with 60 seats in the college. However, two quarters have been kept for cleaning workers in the college campus.

The minister inaugurated the college before planting a goose berry seedling in front of it.

In his address, the minister said that the students of this area would get opportunity to study commerce subjects up to degree level here.

Bongaigaon Refinery has already promised to offer furniture, air-cooler and books in the library, said GC Sikdar, Chief General Manager in-charge of the refinery.

Legislators Ananta Malo (Abhayapuri South), Ashwini Ray Sarkar (Golakganj), Ashok Singhi (Bilasipara east), Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu and top officials of higher education department were present in the inaugural ceremony.
