First-ever Brahmaputra sailing expedition in Oct

GUWAHATI, Aug 27 - Major General Bipin Bakshi, ADG, NCC NER Directorate, interacted with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today and discussed various aspects, which included the raising of a new battalion at Kokrajhar, enhanced incentives for NCC cadets and a sailing expedition in the Brahmaputra.

The ADG apprised Sonowal of the first-ever Brahmaputra sailing expedition and accorded invitation to him as the chief guest for the flagging off ceremony on October 26.

A group of 80 NCC cadets under the guidance of Bakshi, an experienced sailor himself, have set for themselves the lofty target of taming the mighty river with three sailing boats. They will cover about 200 km stretch from Tezpur to Guwahati. The Chief Minister was also briefed about the plans for expansion of NCC and the new set of awards, including extending the existing Bir Chilarai Award to more number of cadets and units.

Sonowal, citing his personal experience as an NCC cadet, talked about the rigorous training he had received as a cadet, which certainly shaped his stature. He highlighted the need for a purposeful training regime for the cadets to enable them to build their mental and physical capabilities.

Sonowal assured the officer that all assistance will be accorded by the State to bring up the ethos of NCC in Assam.
