First COVID death case in Golaghat dist

DERGAON, July 13 - A young employee of a private pharmacy of Golaghat town died due to COVID-19 on the way to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) on Sunday evening resulting in the first death case in the district due to the pandemic.

The in-charge of Golaghat Covid hospital Dr Rupma Dowerah told this correspondent that Uttam Das (34), working at a private pharmacy was suffering from fever and cough for a long period and was undergoing self medication. Finally, he came to Golaghat Civil Hospital and gave his swab on July 7. After giving his swab he was at home. But, his condition became critical on July 11 night and in the next morning on Sunday he was taken to Golaghat Civil Hospital under the instruction of the Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat.

�But due to his critical condition he was shifted to JMCH where he died on his way at Dergaon,� he said.

His swab test result as positive came out after his death.

Confirming the first COVID-19-related death in Golaghat, the DIPRO in-charge Papu Gogoi said that his cremation was performed at Muktidham, the cremation ground of Golaghat Municipality Board at Arengapara, Golaghat with COVID-19 protocol this afternoon.

However, the Deputy Commissioner Bibhash Ch Modi said that official declaration would be made after receiving report from the government.

After 68 new positive cases were detected, the number of active cases has increased to 108 in Golaghat district as on Monday.

The new cases includes 24 passengers, 8 contact tracing persons including 2 health workers and 36 others.
