Firearm licences cancelled

SIVASAGAR, June 23 - Deputy Commissioner-cum- District Magistrate, Sivasagar, through an order on June 21, cancelled the licences of firearms of two persons as there is no report of any threat to them. The licence holders may appeal to the district authority in case of any complaint regarding the matter within 30 days of issuance of the order.

Through another order on June 19, Sivasagar district administration had clamped IPC 144 in the district keeping an eye on the law-and-order situation before the Independence Day. It has banned pillion riding on two wheelers, gathering in public places of more than five persons, bringing out a procession, holding of rallies, construction of swahid bedi, wall writing, raising funds from business establishments etc. However, persons above 60 years and below 12 are exempted from the purview of the order for pillion riding.

The administration has also banned the use of tobacco and other drugs harmful for human health and the use of polythene below 50 microns, plastic carry bags, gutkha, Sikhor etc., for an indefinite period through the same order with comes into effect immediately, an official press release stated.
