Fire Service Week from April 14 to 20

GUWAHATI, March 13 � With the rest of the country, the State Fire Service Organisation, Assam is going to observe Fire Service Day on April 14 and Fire Service Week from April 14 to 20. On this occasion, all the members of the organisation will pay homage to the brave fighters of the country who laid down their lives during their service. A host of programmes have been lined up to observe both the occasions.

On April 14, after raising of the flag, homage will be paid by laying wreaths on the Swahid Bedi by the officers and men of Fire Service Organization, Assam. This will be followed by taking out of processions on road and illumination of the Fire Service buildings of the State in the evening.

From April 15 to 20, fire awareness programmes will be organised at all Fire Service Stations of the State to create awareness amongst the masses.

From 9 am onward on April 21, on the spot drawing competition will be held among the students of class IV to VII at the office premises of the State Fire Service Organisation, Assam located at Panbazar, Guwahati.

There will be an essay competition among two sections of students: Lower Section (students from class VII to XII) and Higher Section (from TDC 1st year to University level students). The topic for Lower Section is- �The Need of Fire and Evacuation Drill in School� (word limit-300 words), while for the Higher Section, the topic is � �Fire and Emergency Services� (word limit � 500 words).

Interested participants have been requested to submit their essays through the Head of their respective educational institutions along with two copies of passport size photographs, full address and contact numbers to �DK Bora, Additional Director General of Police cum Director, State Fire Service Organisation, Assam, Guwahati-1� on or before March 31.

The prizes for the drawing and essay competitions will be distributed in the evening of April 21, at a function held at the Fire Service Complex of Panbazar, Guwahati.
