Fire incidents rising in Dhubri dist

DHUBRI, Sept 22 - Even after repeated attempts by the administration to tackle the fire incidents in the district, such unfortunate events are on the rise. Data available with this correspondent reveals that the Dhubri Fire and Emergency Services Station had in the year 2015 attended to 55 calls, while in the year 2016 up to August 31, 30 calls have already been attended to by the station.

Officials informed that the number of fire incidents is high during the festive seasons. The data also reveals that last year only four special calls were attended to by the fire station, while this year till August end as many as seven special calls have already been attended to.

In 2015, property worth Rs 79,02,500 was affected, while this year already property worth Rs 30,07,000 have already been destroyed in fire.

�Durga Puja is celebrated in 100 mandaps only in the Dhubri town, while Diwali is celebrated in almost every households in the town. During this season the number of such unfortunate incidents is high,� said Sayed Nurul Amin, a social activist. �We need adequate, appropriate equipment to handle such situations,� he added.

Meanwhile, officials of the service stations are constantly carrying out awareness programmes all over the district. Squad Commander Lutfar Dewan said that they have undertaken several programmes since June 10 to make people aware of how to avoid such incidents.
