GUWAHATI, Nov 1 - Eleven shops were gutted in a massive fire at Pandu under the Jalukbari Police Station late last night. The incident occurred around 12 am and 11 shops, including a tea stall, grocery shops and jewellery shops, were destroyed. However, no injury has been reported.
A source in the State Fire and Emergency Services said that it received a call at 12.30 am regarding the fire. Altogether 12 firetenders stationed at Dispur, Chandmari, Pandu and Lokhra were pressed into service.
The cause of the fire that started from one of the shops is yet to be ascertained. It spread quickly due to two loaded kerosene drums kept in the shop, the official added.
