Fire at Joyanagar

GUWAHATI, July 16 - A fire broke out at a temporary shelter for the workers of a coal depot at Joyanagar on Tripura Road here this afternoon.

According to an official of the State Fire and Emergency Services, the incident occurred at 1 pm. �Two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. The three-room shelter near the depot was completely destroyed,� he said.

The fire spread to a truck parked nearby and engulfed it in no time. �It took the firefighters around half-an-hour to control the blaze. An electrical short-circuit is believed to have sparked the fire,� the official said.
