By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 30 - A devastating fire gutted the top floor of a commercial complex at the Goswami Service area here around 7:40 this evening. No one was, however, injured in the incident.

Members of fire response team said that the fire apparently emanated from thatched houses on the rooftop of the building. Several LPG cylinders burst in the fire, worsening the situation.

Fire-tenders were rushed to the area from different stations and it took around 40 minutes for the fire fighters to douse the fire.

Police said that immediately after the fire had broken out, all those who were inside the building managed to get out to safer places. While the building houses Rang Ghar lodge on the third floor (top floor), popular restaurant Kurry Pot is on the first floor.

The fire created a panicky situation in the locality and a massive traffic jam was also witnessed on the MRD Road with hundreds of people flocking to the area. Additional police personnel were rushed to the spot to ease the traffic snarls.

Police sources that although the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it appears to be a case of multiple cylinder burst.
