FIR lodged over threats to market body secy

GUWAHATI, Sept 29 - The vendors� committee of the daily market under Six Mile overbridge, affiliated to the Street Vendors Association of Assam, has lodged an FIR with Dispur Police Station after its secretary has been threatened repeatedly by miscreants. �After the committee of daily market under Six Mile overbridge filed a complaint against the illegal tax collection allegedly by the lessee under Guwahati Municipal Corporation, the secretary of the market committee Rajiv Deka has been threatened repeatedly by unidentified persons. There is a need of police patrolling in the area so that such activities can be prevented,� the committee stated in the FIR.

Recently the market committee had sent letters to GMC Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass, DC Kamrup (Metro) Biswajit Pegu and Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta mentioning the illegal tax collection from the vendors of daily market under Six Mile overbridge by the lessee under GMC.

�A meeting was held with the police and the officials of GMC recently and they had directed us to provide tax to the lessee as per the rate fixed by the GMC. However, the lessee is not yet ready to take the tax amount as per the rate,� market committee secretary Deka said.
