NAGAON, Oct 12 - Following the mysterious death of a patient, the family of the deceased, as well as some other relatives of the patient, went on a rampage at a private hospital located in the Haiborgaon area on Sunday night.
Police from the Haiborgaon outpost later rushed to the hospital and managed to bring the situation under control. Subsequently, the family of the deceased lodged an FIR against the physician concerned in this regard with the Haiborgaon Police Outpost.
According to sources, one Jinti Das Sarma from Nagaon Ghahigaon village was admitted in Nagaon PKB Nursing Home on Tuesday last after she sustained an injury in one of her feet and the physician Dr Golap Das did an orthopaedic surgery on her on Friday.
Following the surgery, her condition deteriorated due to mysterious reasons and Dr Das directed the family members of Jinti to immediately admit her to GNRC Hospital in Guwahati.
The doctors at GNRC Hospital confirmed that she had kidney failure. Jinti breathed her last at GNRC Hospital on Sunday, sources claimed.
The family and other people from her native Ghahigaon village alleged wrong treatment by Dr Das and staged a protest at the nursing home and also gheraoed it for several hours.
During the protest, they rented various slogans against Dr Das and demanded stringent action against him as well as compensation to the bereaved family.
Police later sent the body of the deceased to Nagaon Civil Hospital for postmortem.
