FIR against CM for poll code violation

JORHAT, April 3 � An FIR was lodged at Jorhat Sadar Police Station today against Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi accusing him of violating the model code of conduct. This was revealed by advocate Rintu Goswami at a press meet held at Press Club, Jorhat this afternoon.

Addressing mediapersons, Goswami alleged that Tarun Gogoi, candidate of No 100 Titabor Constituency, addressed a press conference at Hotel Paradise, here from 10 am to 11 am, which was attended by both electronic and print media persos which amounted to violation of model code of conduct. In the meeting, Gogoi vehemently criticized the opposition parties particularly AGP and BJP and also discussed the policies taken by the Congress government under his Chief Ministership.

The office of the Deputy Commissioner and district election officer, Jorhat, vide letter No. GEL/MCC/2011/2/186-89 dated April 2, 2011, clearly stated that �releasing of appeals, advertisement through newspaper, TV channels after 3 pm of April 2, 2011 by the candidate will invite violation of Election Model Code of Conduct�, he said.

He further said, �If the candidate is proved guilty, his candidature may be cancelled and a penalty of two years of imprisonment will be imposed upon him�.
