Find new ways of improving civic amenities, CM tells GMC

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Dec 20 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today laid stress on revenue generation and directed a delegation of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) to adopt innovative measures to create better civic amenities in the city.

The Chief Minister asked the delegation led by GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania to carry out a survey of the city to identify potential areas and to utilise the same for increasing the revenue collection.

The additional revenue to be generated from these potential areas should be used for improving civic facilities, beautification of the city and to increase citizens convenience, he said.

The tax-payers support is crucial for effecting newer changes and citizens meets should be conducted to apprise them whenever any such potential revenue generating areas are identified.

Sonowal also urged them to integrate the service delivery mechanism of the Corporation and create Single Window Operation system wherever possible.

Being the apex civic body, GMC should have an imposing building with all modern amenities to create a better working environment as well as setting an impression about the standard of the city in the minds of the tax-payers and the visitors said Sonowal.

The Chief Minister also spoke about his vision about Guwahati as a city with all modern amenities and planned construction and shared with them the proposed State Capital Region concept.

The proposed concept will increase the radius of the city encompassing several suburban areas with better facilities for the city dwellers. PTI
