Financial irregularities by Forest officer alleged

JORHAT, Jan 25 - The Jorhat district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad has alleged committing of financial irregularities by the Divisional Forest Officer (Jorhat), Sapan Saikia, while making payment to several contractors engaged by the department and to a few forest officials.

In a statement, issued by the AJYCP�s Jorhat district unit president and general secretary � Ritul Pathak and Bubu Dutta � on Wednesday evening, the students� body alleged that the Saikia misused an amount of Rs 1.7 crore during the period of 2014 to 2017.

Claiming to have detected the irregularities by information collected from the Forest Department office by making RTI queries, the AJYCP leaders alleged that Saikia issued several self-cheques by violating government rules reportedly to make payments to contractors and some officials in the name of implementing different schemes and projects.

The AJYCP�s statement demanded a high-level government inquiry into the alleged irregularities

However, when contacted, Saikia said that an inquiry ordered by the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner, Virendra Mittal, on the matter was on, adding that it would not be proper for him to comment on the subject.
