KALAIGAON, July 16 - In a noble attempt to provide relief to needy students and encourage them to move forward in their daily struggle, the members of Durgat Kalyan Nyas, a Kalaigaon-based organisation, distributed cash incentives to some sick and poor students here recently.
The function held on the occasion was presided over by the founder president of the body, DN Hazarika, Circle Officer, Kalaigaon Revenue Circle. Lohit Chandra Nath, secretary of the Nyas, introduced the distinguished guests before felicitating them with a japi and gamosa each. He recounted the story behind the formation of the Nyas in 2007. He said that it was a spontaneous move on the part of like-minded people who came forward to help poor and sick students.
Attending the function as the chief guest, Dr Prakash Sarma, principal of MC College, Barpeta, thanked the members of the Nyas for their contributions, which would show give hope to those who were helpless in life. �It is a rare moment in my life to meet people who have formed a trust with their own money to help the poor and sick,� he said.
Dr Binoy Kumar Medhi, former principal of Tangla College, who was the distinguished guest, said that people today hardly help others in distress. He thanked the people of Kalaigaon for joining hands to help poor and sick students.
Ghateswar Barua, lecturer of Tangla College, also attended the function as an invited guest. Thirteen poor and meritorious students were each given Rs 4,000 in cash, while five critically ill children were each given Rs 3,000 in cash.
Kamal Prasad Sarma, Mouzadar, Kalaigaon, offered the vote of thanks.
